Ageon vs Whoop: a Whoop Age alternative without the band
Whoop is a screenless band that tracks you around the clock and turns that into recovery, strain and, on Peak and Life memberships, a Whoop Age. Ageon is an iPhone app that estimates your age from three quick tests and whatever Apple Health already has, then helps you test which habits move it.
| Ageon | Whoop | |
|---|---|---|
| What you need | An iPhone. Apple Watch, rings and smart scales are optional. | A Whoop band, included with the membership. |
| Cost | Free to start. Premium is $5.99 a month or $34.99 a year, with a 7-day trial. | One $199, Peak $239 or Life $359 a year. Whoop Age is on Peak and Life. |
| Age estimate | An Ageon Score across six domains, and an Ageon Age estimated from the inputs that change most with age, like VO2 max, push-ups and balance. | Whoop Age and Pace of Aging, from nine sleep, activity and fitness metrics. |
| How it's calculated | Published, with every reference table, weight and source. | Described in a WHOOP white paper. |
| Strength and mobility | Sit-to-rise, push-ups and a 10-second balance test. The iPhone camera can count push-ups and time the balance test. | Strength training time counts. No guided strength or balance tests. |
| Daily tracking | Daily summaries from Apple Health. No device of its own. | 24/7 heart rate, HRV, sleep, recovery and strain from the band. |
| Testing what works | Try one change for 7 to 56 days and compare your readings with the four weeks before. It shows what changed, not proof of cause. | A journal that links logged behaviors with recovery. |
Where Whoop is the better pick
You want a recovery and strain score every morning. Whoop is built around it, and Ageon has no equivalent.
You want hardware. The band records all day and night, with no screen and no phone needed.
You're on Android. Ageon is iPhone only.
Where Ageon is different
No band or membership. If your iPhone has Apple Health data, from an Apple Watch or another device that writes to it, Ageon uses it. If not, the three tests and a few questions are enough to start.
Strength and balance count directly. Push-ups, sit-to-rise and one-leg balance each predict how people age, and Whoop doesn't test them.
The method is public. You can read exactly which studies and reference tables turn your numbers into an Ageon Age.
Experiments compare your own readings before and during a change, so you can see what moved for you. They show a difference, not proof that the habit caused it.
Which should you choose?
Pick Whoop if you train hard and want a daily recovery score from a dedicated band. Pick Ageon if you want to know how you're aging and what moves it without buying hardware. They also work together: Whoop can write sleep and heart data to Apple Health, which Ageon reads.
Questions
Is there a free alternative to Whoop Age?
Ageon estimates an age from fitness tests and Apple Health data with no band. The estimate, Pace of Aging and Blood age are free. Premium adds trends, plans and more experiments.
Does Whoop Age need a Peak membership?
Yes. Whoop Age and Pace of Aging are part of Healthspan, which comes with Peak ($239 a year) and Life ($359 a year), not One.
Can I use Ageon with Whoop?
Yes. Ageon reads Apple Health, and Whoop can share data such as sleep and heart rate with Apple Health when you turn that on in the Whoop app.
Ageon gives wellness estimates, not diagnoses. No app or wearable measures biological aging directly. Prices are in US dollars and can change, so check each product's own page before you buy.
